'Take us to the beach!' shouts Victoria Stitch as holding tightly on to the flying carpet as it streaks through the air.
Minorette-topped mosques and ice cream coloured villas flash by. Pink Rabbit covers his eyes as the carpet does a loop the loop and shoots downwards towards the nearest beach.
They land with a bump. Victoria Stitch hops off and prances across the sand, kicking it up with her feet. Then she takes off her dress and tights and puts on a swimming costume and suncream instead.
'Let's build a sand castle!' she says to Pink Rabbit. ' An enormous sand palace!' Pink Rabbit looks dubious. His nerves have been shaken from the flight.
Victoria Stitch gets out her skull and crossbones bucket and spade and begins to dig. She practices by making a little castle first.
Then she starts on her huge Palace. She digs and digs and digs and pats and smooths and pats. She presses shells into the walls of her palace and puts down her flying carpet as a welcome mat.
Pink Rabbit sleeps.
When it's finished, Victoria Stitch stands back to admire her handiwork. 'I am Queen of this castle!' She announces.
She walks through the door of her sand palace . It feels good to get out o the hot sun. Victoria Stitch sits down on the cool sand and closes her eyes for a second...
...She is woken by the feeling of water lapping round her legs. Her eyes snap open in surprise. She must have slept for hours! She is sitting almost waist deep in a pool of water and her creation is crumbling down around her.
Victoria Stitch leaps up and runs splashing out of her palace. Pink Rabbit and the magic carpet are nowhere to be seen!
She flaps her little wings and they lift her out of the water and into the air. She spots her bucket and spade floating gracefully away on the crest of a wave and snatches them up angrily. But where is Pink Rabbit?
She searches for him until it is dark.
Poor Victoria Stitch. Her wings are not made for intensive flying and by the time she arrives back at the hotel cross, worried and Pink Rabbit-less, she is exhausted.
She opens the door to her room and discovers the television on. 'That's funny,' she thinks.
But then, on the bed, scoffing turkish delight and watching the music channel, are Pink Rabbit and the flying carpet looking smug and non-plussed to see her.
Victoria Stitch is furious. She plans to wring their necks but before she even gets halfway across the room, she flops forward and falls fast asleep...
... to dream of jewel studded camels and a rose flavoured sea.

Victoria Stitch at the Palace (part 3 of 3)
Victoria Stitch is pleased with the amount of attention she seems to attract as she walks into the Palace Ballroom. The music stops. Ladies in pink and silver wigs stare and whisper.
Then a dark, handsome man steps forward.
'You are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen.' he says in a slightly forced manner.
'Oh I know,' says Victoria Stitch waving her hand airily. 'I am so very beautiful. I am Cinderella!'
'I thought so,' says the handsome man, looking pleased. He holds out his hand for Victoria Stitch to take but she brushes it aside and walks over to the buffet table. She takes five chocolate covered strawberries and picks the shrimps off seven little biscuits.
The Prince still persists in hovering round Victoria Stitch.
'May I have the pleasure of a dance with you?' he asks uneasily.
'If you must,' says Victoria Stitch, putting all the shrimps in her mouth at once. 'But you can't kiss me. I'll have fish breath.'
The Prince looks confused.
'You are... Cinderella?' he whispers.
'Oh yes!' answers Victoria Stitch. 'Most definitely!'
The Prince breathes in relief.
'Well then, we must dance!' he says taking Victoria Stitch by the hand. 'Come this way, do you know how to foxtrot?'
'Foxwhat?'
Victoria Stitch does not know how to foxtrot. She steps on the Prince's toes several times. He begins to look annoyed.
'How about you take off your glass slippers?' he suggests in a whisper. 'In fact may as well give me one of them now. Save me the trouble of running after you later.'
Then in a most ungentlemanly manner, he lifts up the corner of Victoria Stitch's orange satin skirt and holds out his hand for her foot.
The Prince sees her black lace up boots and gasps.
'You're no Cinderella!' he cries, leaping up in fury. 'I knew it!'
'I am!' shrieks Victoria Stitch. But then she sees the crowd and Royal family advancing towards her and she turns and bolts out of the room, grabbing a handful of chocolate covered strawberries as she goes.
'Catch her!' shouts the Prince. 'She's an impostor! Put her in prison!'
'Oh sugarplum fairies,' mutters Victoria Stitch as she runs out of the Palace doors and across the courtyard. 'Why didn't I just wear the silly glass shoes?'
She starts to bat her little black wings and they lift her shakily into the air. Then she closes her eyes tight and flies right off the page and out of the book, landing with a thud, back in the dark book shop in her underwear.
Pink Rabbit is so pleased to see her that he leaps into her arms, sniffling.
'Come on Pink Rabbit,' says Victoria Stitch. 'I think we've had enough excitement for one night. 'Let's go home.'

Victoria Stitch and Cinderella (part 2 of 3)
Victoria Stitch lands with a bump onto the hard stone floor of an old fashioned looking kitchen. There is a pretty girl sitting by the fireplace with a soot smudge on her face.
'You must be my fairy Godmother!' exclaims the girl.
Victoria Stitch stands up, brushing the dust from her dress.
'I most certainly am not!' she retorts. 'I am Victoria Stitch and I am the Queen!'
The girl looks confused. 'I think you must be in the wrong book then,' she says. 'I'm Cinderella and I'm waiting for my fairy Godmother to arrive.'
'I know,' answers Victoria Stitch. 'And then she'll give you a nice sparkly dress and some glass slippers and send you to the ball!'
Cinderella nods.
'Well not tonight!' Victoria Stitch says with a sudden flourish. 'For tonight I want to wear the sparkly dress and go to the ball! After all I am the Queen!'
Then before you can say 'crystal stillettos' she takes off her dress, tears it into strips and uses it to tie Cinderella to the chair. Then she skips gleefully out of the kitchen and shuts the door behind her.
Victoria Stitch waits, shivering in the garden. It isn't long before there is a puff of smoke and a splutter of stars and a little old lady with blue hair and silver spectacles appears in the night air. She stares at Victoria Stitch.
'Why in the name of spinning bats are you standing there in your underwear dear girl!?' She asks.
'My ugly sisters stole my clothes,' lies Victoria Stitch.
'Oh you poor darling!' cries the Fairy Godmother. 'We'll soon remedy that!'
She waves her wand three times and pokes Victoria Stitch in the tummy.
Victoria Stitch finds herself standing in a giant pumpkin suit.
'Oh dear,' worries the little old lady. 'I think I'm a bit rusty.'
She pokes Victoria Stitch again and this time a beautiful dress begins to weave itself around her, dripping with orange glitter and positively breathing magic.
'That's better!'
Victoria Stitch twirls and hops about in the dress excitedly.
'Don't ruin it now!' Warns the Fairy Godmother. 'Now all you have to do is go down to the bottom of the garden and fetch me a pumpkin, two white mice and a spotted newt. Hmm, yes that should be all. And bring then here to me.'
'What?!' exclaims Victoria Stitch. 'In this dress?'
'Well you do have a point,' murmurs the Fairy Godmother. She picks up her skirts and totters down the garden to the vegetable patch herself and pokes her wand at a pumpkin. Immediately it begins to transform, its orange skin stretching and shining in the moonlight, the green vines twisting and curving to become wheels and spokes.
The Fairy Godmother pokes her wand again at two conveniently placed white mice. they begin to grow and become twitchy faced horses.
'Now for the newt,' says the Fair Godmother picking her way over to the pond and sticking her wand into the dark water. She swirls it about for a bit until ripples begin to appear and a rather spotty looking young man in a green coat and tails emerges, dripping with pond weed.
'Marvellous!' exclaims the Fairy Godmother.
The pumpkin carriage stands in all its glory, glowing and waiting with two white horses to pull it and one spotty, spluttering man to drive it.
'Now there's one more thing,' the Fairy Godmother begins. 'You must leave the ball before midnight or...'
'otherwise my dress will disappear,' finishes Victoria Stitch. 'I know. It's fine, I've got my nice underwear on.'
She steps into the carriage.
'Oh by the way,' she continues, 'These glass shoes, they're a bit tight.'
'Well that's odd,' says the fairy Godmother. 'You are Cinderella aren't you?'
'Oh yes!' replies Victoria Stitch.
The Fairy Godmother smiles and shuts the carriage door.
'Well off you go then!' she smiles. 'Have a splendid time my dear! Now I really must go and check on that peculiar noise coming from the kitchen, it sounds like the cat is stuck in there or something.'
The carriage begins to roll away with Victoria Stitch inside, sitting comfortably on the purple velvet cushions, smiling to herself. She kicks off the glass stilettos and pulls her own black lace-up boots back on.
'Much more comfy,' she says to herself, wiggling her toes.
Then she sticks her head out of the window and watches the starry sky fly by as the carriage glides away towards the Palace...
